For thousands of years honey has been known for its special properties and honey derived from the New Zealand Manuka tree is prized as one of these.
UMF® Manuka Honey is produced by honeybees from New Zealand’s native Manuka (Leptospermum scoparium) an abundant flowering bush covered in white or pink flowers in spring and summer that grows wild in the subtropical North Island.
There are a number of assays and techniques including newly emerging work on determining what Manuka is, that will be available to the consumer to verify the origin and provenance of this distinctive product. The UMF® rating is a measure of the attributes and values that make up Manuka honey, and assures purity and quality. For more information see www.umf.org.nz.

What Is The Difference Between Active Manuka Honey and UMF® Rated Manuka Honey ?
Active Manuka Honey in the market is simply tested for its Total Peroxide Activity and this honey should not be confused with the UMF® Manuka Honey which is tested for its' "Non Peroxide Activity” (NPA). Research undertaken with Manuka honey by Dr Peter Molan and his team at Waikato University clearly identified and confirmed that it is the Non Peroxide Activity that provides the grading for the UMF® level and this is supported by robust audit processes that confirms the honey is true to its label.
